OHP Success Story – Winter 2025

Stephanie is a vibrant 39-year-old who loves going on walks, watching movies, and the sound of barking dogs. Above all, she loves her sisters who stand by her side as dedicated caregivers. Born with a 22q13 gene deletion and Phelan-McDermid syndrome, Stephanie faces challenges in communication and other health conditions, but she continues to find joy in the simple things in life.

Stephanie’s journey has been one of resilience and family support. Whether attending Wiggles concerts or doctor’s appointments, her sisters have always been there for her. However, when it comes to medical treatments, Stephanie isn’t a fan. That’s why her family turned to Exceptional Needs Dental Services (ENDS) to help manage her anxiety around dental visits.

This past summer, Stephanie’s family became worried when she couldn’t get out of bed. Her usual cheerful, energetic self seemed to be missing. After receiving a dental examination, it was discovered that she had decay on two of her teeth. The ENDS team was able to arrange and complete treatment in a hospital setting to relieve her pain.

According to Stephanie’s mom, the results were remarkable. “She was back to her old self after the procedure”. Her mom shared that Stephanie is thriving and enjoying her favorite pastimes again. Her family is grateful to see her pain-free and living her best life.
